RUKUNGIRI - The Minister of Local Government, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, has asked MPs from Rukungiri district to investigate the current wrangle between the resident district commissioner and the district council. On October 17, Mr Kabwegyere wrote to the MPs, that it was their duty to find out the cause of �bad blood� between Ms Alina Mary Kemerwa and the district council, in order to realise smooth running of the district. Last month, Kemerwa reportedly equated the councillors to frogs. He borrowed the metaphor from a Runyankore proverb, which says that frogs play in the house whenever the family head is away. The council subsequently wrote to the president requesting him to transfer Kemerwa from Rukungiri. The district Speaker, Mr George Owakukiroru, confirmed receipt of Kabwegyere�s letter. However, Kemerwa accuses the councillors of witch hunting her. She said they hate her because she stopped them from awarding tenders to themselves. |
