The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) have handed over 76 former Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebel captives to Rachel Rehabilitation Centre.

The 5th Division public relations officer in the north, 2nd Lt. Chris Magezi, handed over the captives on Thursday at Lira barracks to the centre director, Evelyn Anena P'Kech.

Magezi said the UPDF rescued them on Wednesday during a battle with Joseph Kony's rebels.

The rescued included 54 children and 22 adults.

Anena commended the UPDF for rescuing the children.

She said the Centre would rehabilitate them for a maximum of two months.
