KAMPALA President Museveni has described the capture of former Iraq dictator, Saddam Hussein, as a positive development. A presidential spokesperson, Mr Onapito Ekomoloit, told The Monitor by phone yesterday that Mr Museveni was elated by the capture of Saddam. Definitely the world has scored in the fight against terrorism and Uganda welcomes the development, Onapito said. We hope that Saddam will be given a fair trial since he has been captured alive, the spokesman said. Museveni was one of a few African leaders who supported the US-led invasion of Iraq in April. Later reports of Uganda sending troops to the Middle East country were disputed and Onapito said yesterday that Uganda had not sent any troops. However, we must know that Uganda was not directly involved in the operation and we only offered moral support, he said. Museveni was said to be in South Africa yesterday on a short visit. |
