KAMPALA The head of the Uganda Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Yona Lwanga, has urged government to be cautious while changing the constitution.

Speaking to vice president Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, who had paid a courtesy visit to the church at Namungoona yesterday, Lwanga said that Uganda is likely to experience problems if government mishandles the review of the 1995 Constitution.

In case they dont respect the law, the country may realise problems which will affect current development, the church leader said.

He told Bukenya that the public is well informed about the Constitution and is watching government sharply.

The Constitutional Review Commission headed by Prof. Fredrick Ssempebwa, handed in its report to government last week.

The minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ms Janat Mukwaya, will present it before Cabinet and then table it before Parliament.

People are sharply eyeing every movement you make with their constitution; we want a harmonious, peaceful constitution that consists all people in the nation for good governance, Lwamga said.

Lwanga, who is also the chairman of the Uganda Joint Christian Council an umbrella grouping for all the mainstream churches in the country, asked government to make quick decisions on how to clear the northern insecurity.

Bukenya praised the Orthodox Church for keeping away from politics.

This church is the most cleanest, the vice president said.
All I have heard is prayers from this church.
