To both of you

What has the "Defection" of Kiiza Besigye taught you to today? What is new that you know today about NRM or Uganda from Kiiza Besigye that you did not know when he was in power? Listen very carefully to what has stated so far, and I have read most of his statements, Kiiza Besigye talks about one thing, State House. There are issues of great Importance happening in Uganda that we do not know to today, and Kiiza Besigye as a man who ran away from a "Bad" government would have furnished us with such information. We have dead people who we want to know who killed them, The Luwero Triangle for starters, the Andrew Kayiira's, The Mukura Saga, the war in the North, is it planted or it is for real? What happened in Mukura?

And I can spend the entire night on the listings, then I continue with a question, has any one of you heard either Kiiza Besigye or Anne Mugisha or any member of the reform agenda giving us any information on those calamities or any other un listed? For Anne Mugisha and Kiiza Besigye were truly insiders of NRM from day one. Many of these people had powerful positions that were directly affecting our people. Now I do not have a problem jumping ship but surely you must know why you jumped the ship? What was wrong with it? And it is more than the election fraud. For what we want to address today is the facts which resulted into the fraud in this election. Reform agenda amazes me on how they use a very selected words when commenting on the NRM government, couple that with Kiiza Besigye's wife taxing in and out of Uganda when ever she wants, that is enough to make an old man very scared of the agents of reform agenda, and I think that Mwaami Kironde's term of Calabash so fits, for as Reform Agenda stands, No one can tell who is a Museveni's De-coy and who is not.

Mwaami Kironde, where have you been hibernating all these years?.Well since
the ground hog has alerted you that the temperatures are now optimal and you
can come out it is indeed very good.
All along and even to date,I have had problems with this so called Reform Agenda
because of the hypocrisy they epitomize.
When in 1996,we exposed all the irregularities in the polls to them, they blantantly
told us we were sore losers and should shut up.
In 2001,when the same tactics they have all along used was applied on them, they
now turn around to tell us that they were further exposing the fraud that Mu7 and
the Movement is and has been from day one. Many gullible people(supporters) of
this monster called Reform Agenda were mowed down in Kireka and to date I am
yet to hear of any condolence message that any official of this Reform Agenda has
sent to the family of those erstwhile supporters. This type of attitude makes me believe
that all those in the Movement(Reform Agenda inclusive) really have no regard for human
lives. All the time they want to carry out their experiments on the lives of ordinary Ugandans in order to perfect what methods they should use the next time around.
Being "born-Again" to me is an oxymoron that I find contemptible and outrightly callous
because we do not want to redress the wrongs we have committed against others.
God will never forgive us our sins unless those to whom we committed the sins forgave
us first and that is the way.
Reform should not think this reptilean camouflage sells well to most silent Ugandans.
Riding on the blood of others like they have been doing since 1973,will not just wash
any more.
Let them really tell all Ugandans who they actually are and what they want to Reform
and may be some Ugandans will give a second thought about them.
For now,to many of us, they are the  many faces NRM/Mu7 is using to make the
International Community believe there is Freedom in Uganda.
So like Ouma Balikowa said, they can eat their new Year Chicken but without the Gizzards because Ugandans are getting to know them for the masquerade they are.
Thank you.

I will not labor into the authenticity of the statistics whether 90% of the people in the talk jokes do not trust Museveni 90% of the time. Museveni himself might not trust them 100%.  It is one way to hear what the opposition has on their chest and how the government can walk around them, or work around them.

The other interesting thing I note is the fact that your camp knew that the 2001 elections would be a charade but went ahead to risk the lives of those who supported your candidate.  This goes further to open up another debate whether Dr Besigye has all along been a decoy in the opposition.  In Butambala we have a saying AbOluganda bita, bwebikonagana tebyatika

I am not so sure of the direct meaning of Bita but will use the word calabash to give a lose meaning. Brothers are like calabashes, they do not break when they hit each other that goes well with the recent Christmas card sent by Dr Kiiza Besiye to brother Museveni.

There are so many Ugandans who would have loved to send, or receive Christmas cards to/from their loved ones who perished in the make-believe elections of the 2001 in which your candidate participated fully aware of the sham.

Many knew that Semogerere would lose in the 1996 elections but if he had not participated he may not have exposed the fraudulent nature of Ugandan elections.

Good many of the born again movementists, hitherto I will call Reform Agenda were part of the system in Uganda in 1996 and hence part of the fraudulent nature of Ugandan elections.  How long will the so called opposition continue to bankrupt our treasury in the guise of exposing the fraudulent nature of Ugandan elections?  In the attempt to expose the fraudulent nature when it comes to the sham elections, the reality is that the opposition legitimatizes the government of the day.

Soon as the winner is sworn in, donor countries use the results of the sham elections to give the government a breath of life.  Then the defeated candidates go into exiles, some of those who stay normally get about 5% (collectively) or less of the total votes cast,  and are seen as no threat.

My opinion, and need not be anybody elses opinion, the opposition should boycott such sham election if they sense that elections cannot be held in a democratic and fair atmosphere.  By so doing knowing the elections will be mere pretense and jeopardize the lives of those who jump on the bandwagon just for statistics, they become self seekers.

Mwami Kibuka,

I would say that M7 is not trusted by about 90% of the people who will sit at the negotiating table for this dialogue.  And the 90% are on both sides of the table.  But M7 cannot be allowed to dominate the process to the extent that the opposition refuses to participate.  If you are very cynical you can go as far as saying the whole thing is a charade.  However I have lived to see the usefulness of these charades even if they do not have the confidence of all participants.

Many knew that Semogerere would lose in the 1996 elections but if he had not participated he may not have exposed the fraudulent nature of Ugandan elections.  Kizza Besigye's participation in 2001 further exposed the weaknesses of the Movement.  By engaging Museveni in these managed (or staged) political activities the opposition demonstrates their capability and builds confidence of a viable alternative.  They also expose the government side for what it is.  Besigye's participation in 2001 was to a large measure responsible for M7 including in his manifesto that this would be his last term.  This is how he managed to hang on to many doubting Thomases whom we called Reform supporters "by night".  The failure to abide by that written commitment is what has caused the rift that created the "Malwa Group".

So participation (rather than boycott) in these charades is very important in building the opposition and exposing the authoritarian regime.  It is in this spirit that the RA participated in election and proposed dialogue after the elections of 2001.  It is also in the same spirit that RA agreed to officially meet with the President in 2003 and will participate in the "Kiyonga talks" in 2004.
