AN estimated 10 to 20 Lord's Resistace Army (LRA) rebels on Sunday night infiltrated Awere internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Gulu and looted food.
They also reportedly abducted a few people to carry their loot.
The LRA rebels have over the last two weeks gone back to Gulu district from the Lango and Teso sub-regions.
The Gulu-based northern Army spokesman, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, yesterday said about 10 rebels had infiltrated the Awere camp.
He said he had no information on whether the rebels abducted people from the camps to carry looted food items.
He, however, added that the UPDF repulsed the rebels.
The people of Gulu had enjoyed at least four months of peace when the rebels transferred their operations to Lango and Teso.
Just a day after Christmas, a group attacked a village in Koch-Ongako in Omoro county and killed two people.
The rebels also raided the some villages and looted food before they disappeared into the bushes ahead of UPDF pursuit.
Meanwhile, members of the Acholi Traditional Chiefs, during a talk show, Dwog Paco, a Radio Mega FM programme that urges rebels to denounce insurgency, on Sunday night appealed to Joseph Kony, the leader of the LRA, to hold talks with the Government.
The chief of Lamogi, Rwot Otinga-Atuka, urged the LRA leadership to denounce the war in order to save the lives of the Acholi.
He said Kony should come out of the bush because he was fighting a senseless war.
