He who finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord (Proverbs 18: 22). This is one Bible verse that many Ugandan big shots and prominent personalities lived to in the year 2003. They are now sailing into the New Year with legal partners. Among the memorable weddings is that of the Political Assistant to president Yoweri Museveni, Moses Byaruhanga to Peace Kazaare Rubarenzya. It took place in a serene ceremony at All Saints church in Kampala on February 22. As a matter of meeting the standards, the church was repainted to suit the big mans wedding.
The month of March begun with the Prime minister Prof. Apollo Nsibambi exchanging wedding vows with Esther Nakiboneka Kabuuza at Namirembe Cathedral. It was actually March 1. The two were pronounced husband and wife in a beautiful wedding presided over by Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyoyo and graced by president Yoweri Museveni. This was perhaps the last prominent couple to wed before the retiring Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo. The aging Nsibambi re-married following the death of his first wife, Rhoda. SC villa and Uganda Cranes captain Edgar Watson was also there to jump on to the wagon when he officially said I do to his long time fiance, Fiona Turinawe on May 31. The talented midfielder is already blessed with a lovely baby girl. Gulu Municipality MP Nobert Mao chose a Friday, August 8, for his long-term fiance Naome Achieng in the most private ceremony of the year. The 30-minute ceremony took place at the Registrar Generals office on the fourth floor of the Crane Chambers on Kampala road. Anthony Oyuku the Assistant Registrar of marriages joined the two together. The couple was in company of two witnesses and two photographers only. Maos constituents in Gulu will still have to wait for their MPs public wedding function perhaps in the New Year.
On September 20, it was a family joy as Teddy Sseezi Cheeye and Annet Kairaba finally tied knot at All Saints Church Nakasero. Only 100 guests witnessed the Director at the Internal security Organisation saying I do. The Couple had lived together for 17 years. Everything was kept within the family as their daughters; Lorna (10) and Laura (14) being the bridesmaids. Their son, Arnold (16) was the maids escort with Nathan Byamukama and Jane Ingabire as Bestman and Matron respectively. The list of the years great weddings was wound up on December 13 when the Chief of Military Intelligence, Col. Noble Mayombo carried Juliet to church to say I do to each other in a function graced by the president. They later hosted their visitors to a reception at Speke Resort Munyonyo. |
