Museveni Decries Small Population In Africa

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said small populations on the vast and rich African continent negatively affected the process of state formation, innovativeness of its people and their ability to resist colonialism, writes Vision Reporter.

Museveni, who is in Morocco, made the remarks on Wednesday during a state banquet offered by His Majesty King Mohammad Vl of Morocco to mark the opening of the “2nd International Conference on Management for Development Results”.
Moroccan Prime Minister Mr. Driss Jottou hosted the banquet at Hotel Mansour Eddaubi in Marrakech City.

A State House press release quoted Museveni as saying that colonialists failed to conquer China and Japan mainly because of their high degree of integration.
He also said colonialism, neo-colonialism and lack of democracy, infrastructure and the private sector by post-independence African regimes and export of raw materials retarded Africa’s development.

He said the fragmentation of Africa into 53 small states has undermined its internal market and its power to negotiate with its development partners.
He said Belgium with 10 million has a GDP of US$229.6b, bigger than the GDP of East Africa.
