POLICE yesterday said an investigation into the weekend road accident in which the Attorney General (AG), Francis Joash Ayume, was killed indicates that a trailer did not knock the AGs vehicle.
The deputy Inspector General of Police, Julius Odwe, yesterday told the the weekly government press briefing that the inspection of the fateful vehicle suggested that there was no contact between the trailer and the AGs vehicle.
We have carried a detailed investigation of the incident and failed to trace any contamination on the vehicle that indicates that there was no impact between the alleged suspect trailer and the victim vehicle, said Odwe.
Odwe used graphics to explain how the accident, which he said covered a distance of about 140 metres could have occurred.
He said the tyre screech marks suggest ed that the vehicle first swerved off the road to the left and then to
the right and the driver finally lost control before the vehicle flipped over several times, finally landing on its wheels in the middle of the road.
We also rule out the scenario that the victim vehicle knocked the suspects vehicle.
There is also no evidence of hit and run. The investigation now is on any other causes of the accident.
Information state minister Dr. Nsaba Buturo said deliberate engineering and distortion of facts was reflected in the media reports on the incident.
Commissioner of police in charge of traffic Wilson Ahimbisibwe had earlier said that the trailer could have been involved in the accident but in a different manner.
