UGANDA 4/6/2004 8:23 NAMOKORA: ATTACK ON REFUGEE CAMP, NEW DETAILS General, Brief New details have emerged of yesterdayæ attack by the rebels of LRA (Lordæ Resistance Army) on the camp for displaced people in Talabong, five kilometres north of Namokora and 60 kilometres east of Kitgum, in north Uganda. Eyewitnesses have told MISNA that at least 15 people died, while an unknown number of people were wounded. However, it is feared that the death toll could be much higher, as many of the displaced ?especially women and children ?were allegedly trapped inside their huts when the camp was torched. The same sources report that the attack on the refugee camp, which holds around 2,000 people, began at 18.30 local time and continued for a few hours, and that numerous ælum?(as the LRA rebels are called in the local Acholi language) ?especially young people ?were involved. For now, the injured have been taken to the mission at Namokora; many of them are in a serious condition pending the arrival of assistance from the district capital Kitgum. The armed forces have delegated the defence of the built-up areas in the area to a kind of popular militia made up mainly of minors.[LC] N¬±êïDz,µçhØ^"wèr§zÜ(®Hm¶ÿÃ"ú¢g(º
