THE Army has appealed to civilians still staying in illegal camps in north and
northeastern Uganda to relocate to gazetted ones.

The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) public relations officer based in Kitgum,
2nd Lt. Chris Magezi, said they risked death and abduction by the rebels.

Speaking in an interview recently, Magezi said people ignored the camps and instead
settled around army detaches near their villages.

He said they were aware of the poor conditions in the gazetted camps but encouraged
people to settle there because they were safe and adequately protected by the Army.

Magezi said most of the atrocities committed by the rebels were on ungazetted camps,
especially when people have gone to look for food.
