Our party (the UPC) will reject with a sense of utter contempt, any noctonal
clandestine move by Yoweri Museveni's sycophants in the so called parliament, to
push NRM agenda with regard to the so called referendum Bill.

The Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, yesterday warned MPs to desist from threatening his
office. "To intimidate me would be to waste your time. I will abide by the oath I took
and continue to be Speaker for every member in Parliament, for the Executive and for
any other arm of government," Ssekandi said angrily.
He was responding to statements made by some MPs including Salaamu Musumba (Bugabula
South); Steven Chebrot (Tingey County) and Sarah Kiyingi, that the Movement was using
the office of the Speaker to manipulate events and politicise the committees.
Musumba had said the process was being done outside the parliamentary rules of
procedure, which would make the House a laughing stock.
"Don't try to work against me because you will not succeed whether by intrigue or by
any other means. You will fail if you try," Ssekandi warned.

He called on MPs to accommodate one another's views, saying it was the only way they
would execute their mandate. Sarah Kiyingi had earlier told the Speaker that camps of
various political forces in the House had undermined the process of constituting the
sessional committees by lining up their preferred members.
The Speaker thwarted attempts by Steven Chebrot to read out names that had allegedly
been prepared by the Movement Caucus.
