"rebels" set up road blocks and open fire on civilians...get this: this happen to quote MISNA "a)the regular army troops and the "rebels" wear identical uniforms; b) There is government army barracks not far from the scene of the ambush.
To it's logical conclusion, it is the UPDF killing civilians, otherwise how can a road ambush occur a few meters from UPDF Army post? UGANDA 19/6/2004 10:30 KITGUM: REBELS STOP CAR AT PRETEND ROAD BLOCK AND OPEN FIRE, VICTIMS General, Brief Five people were killed and an unknown number of people were injured after their vehicle was ambushed by the rebels of LRA (Lordë Resistance Army) on the road linking Kitgum and Gulu in northern Uganda, MISNA sources have said. The attack, which took place yesterday at 11.00 local time near the River Wassua 50 kilometres from Kitgum, differed from previous acts of aggression along that road, one of the most dangerous in the region. For the first time, the rebels set up a pretend road block, thereby deceiving the travellers who are used to being stopped by the regular army along that tract. The soldiers usually oblige people to interrupt their journey for a few hours in order to cut the bushes lining the road, which could otherwise provide a hiding place for the LRA rebels. On this occasion too the civilians stopped at the road block, confused among other things by the fact that the regular army troops and the rebels wear identical uniforms; the gunmen then opened fire at their vehicle, killing five passengers before running away. The survivors were taken to hospital in Gulu. The MISNA source points up the fact that there is a government army barracks not far from the scene of the ambush, as proof of the fact that the rebels are becoming bolder and less predictable by the day. The LRA has tormented the civilian population in Ugandaë northern districts since 1986; in 18 years of violence, it is calculated that over 100.000 people have died, while 25.000 minors have been abducted and over a million people (1.5 million according to some sources) have been displaced.
