Open Letter Against Bush Administration Cuba Policy

Today we witness the growing lies, arrogance and injustices of the current Bush administration, which isn't new to us, for its just a continuum of the history of U.S. policyâ
However, we take note of the particular escalation of attacks on Cuba and our rights of freedom of travel. We have seen President George Bush create an illegal executive order against the people of Cuba.
These new restrictions just to name a few:
The elimination of a General License for travel to visit relatives
Individuals must apply for specific license to visits relatives and must wait three years after their last visit to apply.
There are no exceptions for extreme humanitarian need (a sick or dying relative for instance) as there has been previously
Limiting the definition of family visits to those visiting grandparents, grandchildren, parents, sibling, spouses and children only.
Thus, family visits will be limited to only 14 days.
These are just to name a fewâ
As African people of the twenty first century, we have a special responsibility to our friends and our allies.
As we look at the history of Cuba, and its achievements and commitments to the world and the people of Africa in particular.
Cuba has shown its profound support for the liberation of African people against colonialism. i.e. Namibia, Angola, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and South Africa., just to name a few.
Cuba has been remembered by it support of the struggles of the African-American people, of our political prisoners and the giving of college medical scholarships to African-Americans.
As Cuba prepares to open it's door to 3,000 ill and poor Americans for cost free medical care, we once again see clearly that our brothers and sisters in Cuba stand with us in a fight for one of the worlds most basic rights - the right to live regardless of social, class or racial standing.

"In a short five-year period, Cuba is prepared to save the lives of 3,000
American poor. It is perfectly possible today to forecast and prevent a
heart attack that could be fatal and alleviate illnesses that lead inevitably
to death. These three thousand Americans could come to our country
accompanied by a relative and receive medical treatment absolutely
       free of charge."

President Fidel Castro, June 21, 2004.

Cuba and its people who have stood so solidly with the victims of injustice need our support today, in defense of their right to sovereignty and non interfenrence in their internal affairs. We therefore oppose the unjust laws and policies of the Bush administration, which are violation of international law.
