The Minister of Defence, Mr Amama Mbabazi, has said the government has secured $40
million (about Shs79 billion) to boost the army's offensive against the Lord's
Resistance Army rebels. Mbabazi said this while addressing northern region leaders at
Gulu Council Hall on Wednesday.
He and Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi were touring the district. Mbabazi said the army
will soon acquire new weapons and a gunship to fight the rebels.
He said the government cut budgets of other ministries last year and bought a military
helicopter worth $17 million. Nsibambi said one of the major problems is resettling
former rebels.
Nsibambi and Mbabazi visited Labora Experimental Farm where the government will
establish a rehabilitation centre for former rebels.
