LRA Kills 5 in Kitgum

Five civilians were killed when a vehicle they were travelling was ambushed by rebels
of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) at Obem village, Labongo Oryem sub-county, about
10kms north of Kitgum district.
The LC5 councillor of the area, Mr Marino Ongee, told The Monitor on Saturday the
ambush had been laid by the rebels against the UPDF. Marino Ongee said the incident
took place on July 28. He identified the dead as Oyen Acaa, opoka, Sam Logut, Patrick
Abalo and Moses Ochira.
He said the victims were residents of Padibe internally displaced persons camp. He
said they were travelling from Kitgum town to Padibe when they met the rebel ambush.
He said the rebels had for sometime been disrupting traffic flow from Kitgum town to
Padibe.

Attempts to contact northern region army spokesperson Lt Paddy Ankunda were futile.
Meanwhile, Paddy Ankunda narrowly survived death on Wednesday when his vehicle, a
Toyota Double Cabin truck, was hit by an Adjumani bound truck. Ten soldiers sustained
injuries and are currently admitted to Gulu Referral Hospital as a result of the
accident.
Ankunda and the soldiers were returning from a fact finding and reconnaissance mission
in Pabbo sub-county, about 45 kms north of Gulu town. The vehicle, according to
Ankunda, was damaged. Ankunda, who was driving, said he had suffered minor injuries in
the ribs and on the head.
