Why attack us Baganda and our king? |

THE KING: Ronald Mutebi II |
SIR As a Muganda, I feel provoked whenever I read articles and letters in the press attacking us Baganda and our beloved Kabaka.
So many non-Baganda accuse us of arrogance and tribalism and holding the Government to ransom in our desire for a federal system of governance, which so many people have interpreted as seeking for a special status for Buganda.
Thats why, before you question Bagandas quest for the so-called special status in Uganda, you should first ask yourself the following questions: 1. Why was this country named Uganda? 2. Why did the colonialists put their base in Buganda before expanding to form the present day Uganda? 3. Why are there many Baganda ministers in the Government than any other tribe? 4. Why does the President use English with Luganda whenever addressing the nation? 5. Why is it only in Buganda, where we have elected leaders who are
non-Baganda? 6. Do you know why Banyarwanda and Barundi refugees, had to trek all the way through Kigezi and Ankole before settling in Buganda? 7. Why is everything centred here in Buganda i.e. industries from Jinja (Busoga) to Namanve?
Once you find answers to those questions, you will change your attitude towards Buganda. Lastly, I advise anybody with a negative attitude towards Buganda to go slow because it will not be easy to change the status quo.
