Nigeria High Commission
Accra
"The attention of the Nigeria High Commission has been drawn to comments purportedly made by former President J.J. Rawlings and his special aide, Emmanuel Victor Smith in the Daily Guide edition of Tuesday 30th November, 2004 to the effect that President Olusegun Obasanjo is setting spies or mercenaries against former President. The High Commission noted this comment with utter dismay, given the untiring efforts, commitment and resources deployed by His Excellency President Obansanjo's government towards ensuring peace, security and stability not only in the sub-region and Africa but the entire world at large.
It is a well known fact to all who want to acknowledge truth and good work that Nigeria (one of the major contributors to international peacekeeping operations) has been paying more than its fair share towards ensuring peace and stability in the world.
Moreover, relations between Nigeria and Ghana both of which share common historical heritage have always been cordial. Against this background, it is unimaginable that any one will allege that President Obasanjo who is also the current Chairman of the African Union wants to meddle in the internal affairs of any sister Africa country.
President Obasanjo is above partisan politics and his good name therefore should not be dragged into the internal affairs of any country. For the avoidance of doubt and the records. T(h)e High Commission wishes to categorically state that President Obasanjo had never sent nor contemplated to send any person or group against any individual, group or government anywhere.
The accusations contained in the said publication is to say the least mischievous and can only be the figment of imagination of the former president and his special aide and therefore has no connection whatsoever with the peace loving President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is the wish of the High Commission that the forthcoming elections in Ghana will be conducted in free, transparent and peaceful atmosphere."

NPP Has Failed To Abolish âCash&Carryâ - CPP
....But Busy Showing WealthThe question on many lips in the poorest areas of Ghana is this â why is the NPP spending so much money on its campaign?, when we do not have food to eat each day , money to pay school fees or cure ourselves when we fall ill , and where are they getting the money from?.
The NPP leopard never changes its spots, many are also saying - at the time of independence, when the CPP was busy in the villages finding out the needs of people and educating them, they were busy in Accra , in their elitist white suits telling the Colonial rulers that Ghana was not ready for independence. When the CPP was helping fellow Africans to liberate themselves , they were quick to oppose, when the CPP was working tirelessly to put in place the Unitary State which has served and maintained Ghana as a united country, they were busy fighting for and preaching federalism; they opposed the Development Plans which has given Ghana 95% of the development , infrastructure , economic and social amenities it has today; they reversed the faculty changes at Ghanaâs Universities which would have meant Ghana would today have had the highly trained personnel in advance technology; they abandoned many viable projects after the treason against the CPP , wasting millions in the process; they have opposed the creation of highly successful and profitable state concerns such as Ghana Commercial Bank, which according to a recent Bank Survey is the number one bank in Ghana and has held that spot for the last 6 years; they have intentionally collapsed the national carrier Ghana Airways which will ultimately lead to exorbitant cost of air travel as foreign airlines cash in on Ghanaians. Far from creating jobs they are always looking to sell-off profitable Ghanaian ventures to foreigners. Their elitist and greedy tendencies throughout the history of Ghana has not diminished and has indeed manifested itself in a new twist for the campaign leading to election 2004 â they have spent billions on Electronic Billboards and glossy adverts, and millions allegedly from foreign branches have been spent in donating 4Wheel Drives, Cars, Bicycles and even a Power Glider Plane to the NPP, all at a time when they have failed in their promise to abolish âCash & Carryâ at our hospitals, at a time when they have failed in their promise to create 100,000 jobs, at a time when the highly respected Institute of Scientific Social and Economic Research(ISSER) has reported a leap in poverty levels, at a time when doctors , nurses and other professionals are deserting hospitals and other places of work.. When will this leopard learn, how much have NPP branches donated to charity in Ghana as opposed to the millions donated to show off their opulence? â this is a question many are asking. Other well meaning Ghanaians with similar levels of funds to donate, will join the numerous Ghanaian groups already donating to charity services to donate to Korle Bu Hospital to renovate the Childrenâs Ward and/or help the many who cant afford their âCash & Carryâ health costs, donate hospital beds and equipment etc
The NPP however is rather more interested to show off its wealth and opulence whilst failing to deliver on campaign promises and whilst the vast majority of the country wallows in abject poverty.

Rawlings utterances inflamable
- Reform Chairman, Council of state urged reconcile JAK, JJ
From Brenda Osei Akoto, Kumasi. | Posted: Wednesday, December 01, 2004
OPANIN KWAME Afreh, Regional chairman of the National Reform Party (NRP) has called on the Council of State to take appropriate steps to reconcile the president and his predecessor. He said the actions and utterances of the former President were âhighly inflammableâ which called for appropriate action to defuse any tension and rivalry between them. This move, Afreh noted, would ensure stability and peace in the country. He called also on the recognized bodies, including the Christian Council of Churches, National House of Chiefs, Moslem council, University Councils and the Bishopsâ Conference to supplement the efforts of the Council of State in this regard. Afreh said efforts must be made to ensure that the ruling party is not disrupted in implementing it programmes and policies in its tenure of office. So far, the Kufuor-led NPP government has kept faith with the people of Ghana, he said, and that rapport should be sustained for the good of Ghanaians. According to him, the president had shown maturity and proven to the whole world that he was the father of the nation, hence must be supported by all to ensure good governance for the people. The NRP activist praised President Kufuor for the recognition he had accorded the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his family beside moves to reconcile the NPP and the CPP by the electoral alliance, which had evolved the understanding that, the NPP would not field any parliamentary candidate where the CPP had already filed one. The visit to Nkroful, the birthplace of the late Dr. Nkrumah by the President recently and the honour of passing the night there is a record yet to be broken by any Ghanaian leader and this gesture must be reciprocated by all true Nkrumahists. In the light of this, Afreh called on all opposition parties besides the NDC to team up against an emerging third force since Mr. Rawlings had declared openly that he was not an Nkrumahist. Afreh said CPP elements who continued to support Rawlingsâ NDC were destroying the Nkrumah family and called on Messrs Ebo Tawiah, P.V. Obeng, Prof. Hagan, Eddie Blay, Kwesi Armah, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom and all elders of the Nkrumah family to ensure the unity of the family. He called also on all parties, including the PNC and NRP claiming Nkrumah roots to strengthen moves towards building only two political traditions (NPP and CPP) for future elections.
