[Ugnet] Museveni is Ready, And the Opposition?..the question should be How can the opposition put up a fight?

The monitor editorial below, pretty much "limps", if I may say so.How on earth do those News people in the Monitort expects members of the Ugnada oppositions to fully prepare to engage Museveni and his military dictatorship in view of the fact that

a) The Dictatorship is now engaged in a tremendous full throttle deliberate attempt to try and intimidate leaders/members of Uganda's opposition political parties. many have been falsely accussed of having links with "rebels"..be it ADF/RPA/KONY...or what ever..

the idea here is to scare leaders of Uganda's opposition parties so much so that they will pretty much put up a luke warm attempt to challenge the dictatorship. Baring in mind that that anybody who really challenges the dictatorship in multipatry political campaign may be charge with treason and locked up in Luzira (best case senerio) or end up dead at the hands of "robbers" worst case senerio.

b) the Military dictatorship has pretty mcuh bribed most members of the Ugandan parliament. The opposition cannot and should not be expected to do "battle " with Museveni, if, as is the case now, certain instruments ( ugandan parliament) which the opposition may use to challenge the regime's hold onto power , is pretty much in the pocket of the NRM so to say..I hope you get My drift here.

c) all the major Ugandan political parties are pretty much broke. Only the NRM has the funds needed to engage in what ever it deems neccessary to "win" the elections or rather the campaign against Ugandan Opposition parties. Under the circumstances, no doubt' the NRM will win. The MONITOR get NO POINT for this so called editorial..

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday announced a Cabinet reshuffle in which he appointed new Ministers for Finance and Foreign Affairs. The president also named a new Inspector General of Government and a deputy.

The reshuffle ends nearly a year of speculation over the Cabinet reshuffle after key Cabinet posts fell vacant. Attorney General Francis Ayume and Foreign Minister James Wapakhabulo died, Agriculture Minister Wilberforce Kisamba Mugerwa opted for an international job and Finance Minister Gerald Ssendaula had earlier indicated he wanted to retire. The second contracts for the IGG and his deputy also expired and the offices have been vacant for two months now.

With only 15 months to go before the expiry of President Museveni's current, and constitutionally the last term in office - that is under this constitution - the new Cabinet line up is deemed as his war Cabinet ahead as the debate rages on whether or not to amend the Constitution to allow for a third term for the President.

The President has therefore appointed his trusted men to key positions to prepare for the heat ahead, and those who may not stand the heat should know that it is the time to get out of the kitchen. The President has in the past appointed ministers from among the known opposition. This time it is not the case. The message is clear. The party is over for those who do not share his vision to join his Cabinet. In this, the President is right to pick the team that shares his vision.

What bothers many are Ministers who are known to be privately opposed to the kisanja project, and they are still sticking to the Cabinet. For these men and women, it is the time to be sincere to themselves, the President and the country and step aside.

The reshuffle has caught many by surprise, especially the opposition. The President is playing his cards close to his chest. His war team is in place.

The reshuffle also means that the stage is now set for full battle for the transition.

The Opposition must put its act together as quickly as possible. While it tries to understand the strategy behind the new Cabinet line-up, the Movement, with all its resources and incumbency, might pull off another quick and smart move.

The Opposition must act fast.
