KAMPALA - Bugweri county MP, Mr Abdul Katuntu, has hit back at President Yoweri Museveni for calling him a poisonous mushroom, which cannot be eaten.
I want to ask him (Museveni) why he has been sending emissaries to me to join his Movement if he knew that what he called me was true?
Why have they been promising me ministerial appointments, which I have refused? Why? a bitter Katuntu told journalists at Parliament yesterday afternoon.
He said, When I decline his favours of corruption, he should not get angered to insult me in the village. He should just continue convincing me if he so wishes, he said.
Katuntu, an ardent Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) member says the Presidents recent tour of Busoga region was a Kisanja (third term) campaign despite the Presidents assertions that the tour was aimed at improving household incomes.
Because he is seeking this illegitimate and fraudulent life president project, he is busy moving to the countryside lying to the people that he will improve household incomes. President Museveni or his government have no capacity, neither do they have the will to improve the household of ordinary wanainchi, Katuntu said.
Katuntu, also an MP in the Pan African Parliament, says he is giving it serious thought to challenge Musevenis job as head of state.
I am thinking about it seriously. Picking interest in the job President Museveni is holding because I think that seat is now vacant, he said.
Katuntu said he was insulted by the Presidents remarks which have only served to demean and bring the office of the President into contempt, and added that the presidency should be treated with honour and dignity. It should not be occupied by somebody who goes around insulting and abusing people in his native tongue.
While on tour of the Busoga sub-region, President Museveni accu sed Katuntu of frustrating development in his constituency.
However Katuntu said President Museveni should be solely responsible for anti-development if any in Bugweri because the President has been in power for close to twenty years while Katuntu has been an MP for only three and a half years. He also accused the President of frustrating cotton development in the region. Museveni closed down cotton stores in Bugweri because my people were buying the cotton at a higher price than his crooks.
Katuntu challenged Museveni to tell the nation what he has done to improve the livelihood of the people of Bugweri and said, I know for a fact that Museveni does not have any program for the people of Busoga.
President Museveni ended his 5-day tour of Busoga on Tuesday and judging by the rosy welcome he received, Political Pundits believe the opposition faces a strong Movement Challenge in the sub-region.
Hundreds of supporters and excited Basoga turned out to welcome Museveni wherever he visited with people making statues in esanja and dressing them.
