LIRA - Many people living in Aromo and Ogur internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Erute north arehomeless after their huts were destroyed by fire at the weekend. Sources told The Monitor that over 350 huts were destroyed in Aromo on Friday and about 80 in Ogur on Saturday. An estimated 5,000 people are said to be homeless. He said bad weather and carelessness were to blame for fire accidents in IDP camps. Four camps have been affected by fire since January leaving many people homeless. Aler and Ogur camps in Erute north were destroyed last month. Meanwhile, three people suspected to be chicken thieves were beaten to death in Telela Village outside Lira town on Saturday morning. The police are hunting the killers. |
