KAMPALA � Former Ethics and Integrity Minister, Ms Miria Matembe, has said any woman who is not proud of her private parts is not a woman.
She said she glorifies hers so much, �but of course not more than God�.
Matembe, who on Friday protested the banning of the controversial stage play, V Monologues by the Media Council, said women are what they are because of their private parts. �What makes me is my �V�. The V makes a woman, so it is a sacred part of the body,� she said.

The Mbarara Woman MP, who carried her defense of the V-Monologues while appearing on KFM�s Straight to the Point talk-show hosted by Desree Barlow, said women�s private parts are very powerful and have made empires fall and made King David sin.
However, the Information Minister, Dr James Nsaba Buturo, called in the show and brushed off Matembe�s views. �Equating a woman to her V is a misnomer of a kind I do not understand. She is portraying women as sex objects,� he said.
Matembe, who is a self-proclaimed born-again Christian, quickly defended her position and wondered whether Buturo would refer to anyone without a V as a woman.
In her defence for the play, Matembe said she watched V-Monologues nine years ago in Washington DC, but found it fine. �The gist of the play is to bring out all the violence and injustice brought to a woman because of her V. No one stripped on stage. I saw one decently dressed woman explaining how women suffer quietly in their bedrooms.
�Why should such women be silenced? When I called for the castration of men, they called me mad. It was in demonstration of the violent actions against women because of their V,� she said.
Nsaba Buturo accused the promoters of the play of promoting lesbianism and homosexuality, which he said, are outlawed in Uganda.
�The government condemns all actions aimed at dehumanizing women, but this play would abate a situation aimed at undermining the family and family values.�
He said he had extensively read about it, �but reading the script can make you vomit. The play is tasteless and offers no prescription we (government) can apply to end violence against women.� |
