Why you should not support the third term bid
Sir, I wish to express my concern on the issue of third term for President Yoweri Museveni (Ekisanja), basing on the factors that are dear to him.
He always flaunts nationalism, peace, and his having the only vision that can make Uganda a better place for its citizens to live in. But there is no hope with him in the driving seat. We have seen and had all that he could offer, and so it should be clear to the president that he should give a chance to someone else.
Nationalism: He has not demonstrated his commitment to the nationals such that Ugandans can feel proud of their country and of being Ugandans which would have led to the " We" other than the "I" in the country. This is what made countries like Japan be what they are today after the disaster in the world war.
He has not protected Ugandans against foreign competitors, unlike other countries. Here a person just walks into the country and purchases poor people's land for a song, get employed despite of the high rate of unemployment into the country, do business which even the poor Ugandans are doing for survival, and privatisation is carried out in such a manner as to leave several questions being asked. What sort of nationalism is this?
Peace: He boasts of having brought peace but the whole country has never attained peace for all the 20 years he has been in power.
If offered a Kisanja, even the parts of the country which have attained relative peace may be disrupted since those with interest in vying for power but not in power will be too frustrated with the sham transition and transfer of power in Uganda.
This is also contrary to his initial public statement soon after taking over power in 1986 that he has brought a fundamental change in the country. If the fundamental change he brought was envisioning an enslaved part of Uganda, then he has achieved it, but it is no thanks to him - we dont need it because no one wants any Ugandan to be enslaved, whether in camps or safe houses.
Vision: He has not shown any future plans for providing better leadership for this country other than only following the IMF/World Bank policies which are not even properly implemented due to the gross corruption.
He also just uses this as a mechanism to attain personal political support and trying to appease the International community, for which they are supposed to prop up his tottering regime.
For these reasons and more, I find it difficult that any rational Ugandan would want to perpetuate Museveni in power.
