According to Tijs Goldschmidt book - Darwin's Dreampond: Drama in Lake Victoria, Empuuta was introduced into L. Vic, not as a scientific experiment as some of your sources seem to think (and such an experiment would have drawn unequivocal and vehement oppostion -- even at that time).
Rather, it was introduced by ignorant British fishing enthusiasts who did not want to have to trek all the way to R. Nile in order to indulge in their hobby.
I urge every one to read that book, if only because it is written in a very entertaining way and in very simple language, it inexpensive. But most of all: it will inform you, as nothing else will, of the impending doom of L. Victoria: it is fast becoming an aquatic desert, right now, as we speak.

I can tell you that people don't generally review or cite any one book so extentively as they did this one unless it is truly important and outstanding (and/or controversial).
This book is used as atext or assigned reading on several campuses in North America and in a variety of classes, e.g.
