THE Government peace team has submitted its working document to the LRA rebels to study and respond so that meaningful peace talks can resume, the gender minister has said.

Zoe Bakoko Bakoru said this during a workshop in Kitgum at the district council hall on Sunday.

Bakoko said internal affairs minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who heads the peace team, said as the team waited for a response from the LRA rebels, the UPDF would continue with its military operations to protect civilians against the LRA.

Bakoko said there were slight changes in the document, in comparison to the one the Government sent to the rebels last year.

Security minister Betty Akech Okullu, army commander Lt. Gen Aronda Nyakairima, Pader resident district commissioner (RDC) Sylvester Opira, Gulu RDC Max Omeda, Kitgum RDC Lt. Santo Lapolo, Kitgum Woman MP Jane Akwero Odwong and Lira Movement chief Sam Engola attended the meeting.

Bakoko appealed to the Acholi to cooperate with the Government to bring the rebellion to an end so that meaningful development could take place.

"When you have peace, you will develop and benefit from education, health and other facilities. Leaders should unite the people. Let the people join hands and cooperate with the government and the UPDF to end this war, so that you start vigorous socio-economic activities," Bakoko said.

"The amnesty law is real and it is operational. Tell the LRA rebels to come out and benefit from it. Let us fight the propaganda of some negative forces and while we fight the propaganda, let us build trust and confidence in the LRA rebels coming out of the bush," she said.
