Mr Vincent Semakula Settuba , There is a sense of paranoia going on In Yoweri Museveni 's Uganda. That 80,000 families will be evicted from their home in which they have lived for years, is pretty much consistent with  the paranioa now gripping the country.

The National Forestry Authority (NFA) will evict over 80,000 families residing in the gazetted forest reserves in Mpumudde, Kacheera, Kagamba and Kyalulangira sub-counties.

This is contained in a notice the NFA issued to the affected residents recently.

But the district leaders have opposed the eviction and the district council passed a resolution on Friday to petition President Yoweri Museveni.

" Many people have lived here for over 50 years. Where will they go if evicted? There is not even a single tree in the forest reserves," the district chairman, Mr Vincent Semakula Settuba said.

The councillors proposed that, the NFA works out a compromise with the affected residents.

The Resident District Commissioner, Ms Allen Mary Kemerwa, said efforts to overturn the eviction were illegal.

"The eviction exercise is a national policy. Residents in the forest reserves have to vacate," Kemerwa said.
