| Thugs kill headmaster, student |

| MUKONO - Fear gripped residents of Katente Village in Nakisunga Sub-county on Tuesday night when two thugs invaded St. Mary�s Katente Secondary School and shot dead the headmaster and a student. The LCI Chairman, Mr George Mutumba, identified the headmaster as Ssali Mugerwa and the student as Masitula Namigadde. Teachers at the School said Namigadde who was staying at the staff quarters had just reported to the School from her parents� home in Kawempe Kampala for the new term, which began on Monday. Namigadde was reportedly shot as she tried to make an alarm on seeing the Parish Priest, Mr Emanuel Mbalire, being shot by the thugs. Mbalire, also the director of the school, sustained injuries on the legs and the chest and is admitted to Kawolo Hospital. Namigadde has been on a scholarship by Mbalire. Mutumba said two thugs dressed in local administration police uniforms and loaded with an A K 47 riffle and machetes stormed the school�s staff quarters at around 9.00pm, broke into the houses and started hacking the teachers as they ordered them to surrender whatever they possessed. He said when members of staff made a continuous alarm, the thugs took off with their loot leaving the two dead and Mbalire in a critical condition. He said the residents in the morning recovered some household property including clothes belonging to the dead and the schools text books, which had been dropped by the fleeing thugs in the nearby bush. The District Police Commander, Mr Peter Katende, condemned the act and said they were searching the thugs. The LC5 Chairman, Mr Godfrey Ddamulira Kyeyune, vowed to work with police and other security agents to arrest the thugs. |
