INTERNAL Affairs Minister Ruhakana Rugunda yesterday led a team of forensic experts from Uganda to Juba to help in the investigations into the cause of the presidential chopper crash in which seven Ugandans and Sudan vice president Lt. Gen. John Garang lost their lives.
According to the State Minister for International Cooperation, Mr John Bosco Oryem, the experts are to help those from Sudan reconstruct the remains of the Ugandans.
The team travelled yesterday, but by press time, it had not returned to Uganda.
He could not confirm the day the remains are expected back. "Remember tomorrow (today) is a Friday, which is a public holiday in Sudan, Saturday is the burial day and then Sunday follows. So the earliest we expect the remains to return is Monday," the minister said.
Another highly placed source in Khartoum told Daily Monitor when contacted that the bodies would not return till Monday.
The same information was confirmed by one of the members of the bereaved families.
The State Minister for Defence, Ms Ruth Nankabirwa also confirmed that the government would meet additional expenses incurred by families of the deceased during the mourning period.
This is as a result of the delay to have the bodies returned in time for burial.

The families of the deceased were on Wednesday readying themselves to receive the remains of their loved ones only to be told that the bodies were being held unti investigations were complete.
Garang will be burried on Saturday and his body has been moved through several towns in southern Sudan.
