Kampala Casino proprietor Bob Kabonero, the influential businessman considered to be the kingmaker in Ntungamo, recently told friends that he wouldnt be involved in active politics in the run-up to general elections in 2006. Meaning he may not back or fund individual politicians like he did in 1996 and 2001.
I am out of politics. I wont even be around at election time [March 2006). I am going back to school for my masters degree. I am going to Boston [Harvard?], Kabonero recently told friends at his Kampala Casino.
Quite interesting considering that good ol Bob is listed on an unofficial NRM committee that is supposed to ensure that the military, civil service and corporate class systematically serve the ruling partys interests!
Other members are; ministers Sam Kutesa (coordinator), John Nasasira, Mike Mukula. Mwesigwa Rukutana, Moses Byaruhanga, Hope Mwesigye and presidential aide Moses Byaruhanga.
But says Bob: No politics this time. It is back to school in December 2005!
