People in camps demonstrate over peace

LIRA Hundreds of people, most of them from internally displaced persons camps on Friday demonstrated demanding for peace in the north. Waving tree branches and singing Christian songs, they marched on the streets of Lira town carrying placards which read; wan omito Kuc (we want peace), we want perfect peace in Uganda and Jesus is the Prince of peace among others. The procession started from the Mayor's Gardens through all the streets in Lira and they returned to the latter for prayers. The event that started with three days of fasting and prayers in 40 camps in Lira and Apac districts, was organised by the Lango Peace Forum. Bishop Tom Okello of the Pentecostal Church led the prayers. The Lord's Resistance Army rebels led by Joseph Kony have fought the government from the north since 1988.
