Geneva, Switzerland, Sept 14: (Reuters) - The U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday urged renewed international efforts to end Uganda's civil war, which has left nearly one million orphans,  25,000 boys and girls abducted and unknown number of people dead. The 19-year war in the north between Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and Uganda government troops has forced roughly 2 million people into squalid camps in Acholi, Lango, Teso and triggered what aid workers say is one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters. UNICEF representative in Uganda, Martin Mogwanja told a news briefing,  "UNICEF feels that this process is at risk and we want to underline to the international commun ity the importance of remaining fully engaged in the process of mediation," Mogwanja said, "The mediation process needs to move forward to come to a ... ceasefire so that security can be restored and eventually a sustained peace." Mogwanja further said, "Every evening, some 30,000 to 40,000 of these child night commuters leave their homes and go and spend their night in centres ..." Talks between the two warring sides broke down  early this year, after the government of Uganda made un-atainable condition to the LRA.
