THE inter-clan cattle raids between different Karimojong clans in Karamoja sub-region have increased, the Nakapiripirit RDC has said.
Mr Michael Bwalatum told Daily Monitor recently that the Matheniko and Bokora of Moroto district had combined to carry out massive raids on the Pian and Pokot in Nakapiripirit district.
He said the Tepeth of Moroto were also doing the same to the Pian of Nakapiripirit.
The Jie and Dodoth of Kotido had also joined the raids.
"It's now massive raids between different clans in the region. The Bokora and Matheniko can today combine to go and raid the Pian. The next day the Bokora can combine with the Jie to raid the Dodoth in Kotido," Bwalatum said.
He said almost everyday about five to 10 people are killed in Karamoja as a result of the ethnic raids.
"The inter-clan cattle raids in Karamoja has escalated. There are raids almost everyday," he said.
He said the disarmament exercise in the reg
ion by
the army will not yield much.

"They can hand in guns today, the next day they go and buy more from the gun traffickers in Sudan," Bwalatum said.
He said the only solution to cattle rustling is by removing the cows from the warriors.
"The problem in Karamoja is not guns but cattle," he said.
