TWO Canadians, who toured several internally displaced peoples camps northern Uganda, said on Saturday that they had been inspired by children in the war-tor
n
northern Uganda.
Mr Adrian Bradbury and Mr Kieran Hayward, the initiators of the worldwide Guluwalk, were in Uganda for two weeks as part of their continuous campaign to raise awareness on the suffering caused by the 20-year old conflict in the north.
Several people have been killed in the insurgency and others abducted while an estimated 1.6 million are internally displaced.
"We were inspired by both the terrorised Acholi of northern Uganda as well as all of the incredible people in the region, who are doing absolutely everything they can to bring peace in the middle of one of the world's worst humanitarian emergencies," Bradbury said.
"There is hope and an air of optimism in such appalling conditions in the IDP camps, that you can't help but be inspired. It's hard for us to understand how nearly two million people can be trapped in these seemingly hopeless ca
mps, yet
still have hope," he said.

They said beyond everything that can be done to help, there is also plenty that can be learnt in northern Uganda. "It's civil societies which need to remind our leaders about what is important and the children of northern Uganda," Bradbury said.
Bradbury and Hayward, who arrived in Uganda for the first time on March 11, toured several IDP camps including Pagak, Pabbo and Kicwa reception and reintegration centre for former abductees in the districts of Gulu and Kitgum.
They also met night commuters at Lacor Hospital where they listened to the experiences of children, who trek from their villages every evening to sleep on the verandas of the hospital.
