There is every thing wrong with this conference, they state that Canada numbers have dropped like by half in last year but in women in same time they have multiplied by three times. Can any one explain that? But you see when you throw a term women into any thing society follows with out asking any question as if you have thrown in a term terrorism. Very soon in UK all flights are going to be boarded when we are naked due to terrorism, for in all services we use, the terrorists can only attack flights.

Unbelievable.

"...why should there be a focus on the so called "empowering" women, clearly to put them at logger head with their men, especially our women in Africa?" - Oba PaAb

Is that supposed to be a rhetorical question?

That would not be the first weapon that was ever "deployed" to "put them (women) at logger head with their men, especially our women in Africa".

What did christianity do? Go to the churches and see who fill the pews...who are the majority of the "born-agains"?

African women of course!

What did "feminism" plus a smatering of "western education" do to many an African woman?

Which other women folk are still flying the flag of long "out-moded feminism" today? How many Asian or European or Hispanic women women do you see still brandishing the rusty sword of "feminism"?

Why should the "aids scare" and the "pseudo-science" that surrounds it not be used as another weapon to further "put them (women) at logger head with their men, especially our women in Africa"?

Folks,

The aids' conference going on now is something that we Africans MUST be interested in to read what are in between the lines.

I will strongly recommend President Mbeki's strategies to fight the disease today, tomorrow and into the future as long as medication to kill off the disease is not found.

Most of these so called "new drugs", Africans MUST be very careful with. You see, it is the lives of us, the lives of our people; the gene map of us blacks, that is at stake here. And being gullible is noway to go. Beside the drugs, why should there be a focus on the so called "empowering" women, clearly to put them in logger head with their men, especially our women in Africa? We have our own lives and our own culture and tradition including way of life to preserve by any means nescessary!

Like I mentioned before, the so called "microbecites"(sp) could be a form of population control drug, killing sperms. Besides, who and which women would and not use them?

President Mbeki's strategy is the right strategy, instead of African governments throwing millions of dollars into the coffer of pharmacheutical companies in one way or the other, for drugs that may have devastating effects (even if there are claims the drugs will be given free). Who can seriously throw billions of dollars they NEVER bothered to throw all this time Africans have been fighting foreign backed and sponsored wars killing them in millions, to save them?

We have and are still undergoing wars that have so far wasted millions of lives in our continent. These wars are foreign sponsored and backed. No one bother about it but to ship off tons and tons of African resources. Now we are having some philanthrophists consern about the lives in Africa?

This is somekind of jokes! And the saddening facts are that there are some unsuspecting Africans, so green about the true nature of human relations. Some of these so called "aids activists" from the west should stop taking advantage of our grandmas who clearly know nothing about the politics over Africa, African resources and people.

What is behind all these, oh, new drugs; microbecites; empowering women in Africa, especially Sub-Sahara Africa, plus what not? We are no longer "goods" for *&^%$$ sakes!

Those who think and want to be and remain superior should do us good and leave us alone or leave our continent altogether. Unfortunately that is the only recommendation.

We have to wake up and rise!

Oba
