REMNANTS of the rebel Allied Democratic Forces, are re-grouping in western Uganda to wage a rebellion against the government, Daily Monitor has learnt.
The MP for Kyaka, Mr Badru Katongole, yesterday told the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, that, "There are increased rebel movements in western Uganda in the districts of Kibaale and Kyenjonjo." The districts were infested with rebels before they were defeated.
Katongole warned that, "The way things look, we could have an explosive
situation."
He said the rebels, who are moving in small groups, have established a convert network.
"They are linking up and getting more collaborators," he said.
Confirmation
The Army Spokesperson, Maj. Felix Kulayigye, yesterday confirmed the threat.
However, he said, "We have sent a force to exterminate them and stop them from building a base."
Kulayigye said the rebels are in Kibaale and are hiding near River Muzizi on the border of Kibaale and Kyenjojo districts.
Other sources said the rebels were moving in small groups to avoid being detected by security.
During the meeting, the MP for Maracha, Mr Alex Onzima, suggested that an emergency meeting be called over the threat.
Emergency
meeting
"If the situation is bad as my colleague says, then we should call an emergency meeting," Onzima said.
In 1997, the ADF launched a surprise attack on Ugandan soldiers on the DR Congo, Uganda border in Kasese.

In June 1998, they attacked Kichwamba Technical School and burnt three dormitories, killing about 50 to 80 students who were trapped inside.
The bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
The rebels then retreated into the Rwenzori Mountains with an estimated 100 abductees including students and civilians
