Buganda Kingdom chiefs have criticised Buganda Land Board officials over the
illegal sale of the kingdom's land.
Buganda Land Board (BLB) is responsible for leasing and managing the
kingdom's land and property.
While meeting the Katikkiro, Mr Dan Muliika, at Bulange Mengo on Wednesday,
the chiefs said, "People who grab the Kabaka's land connive with BLB officials.
We have always confronted them [illegal occupants] only to show us well signed
land tittles and relevant documents from the Land board," Kabaka's chief in
charge of Kyagwe County Wycliff Luyombya said.
He said the Kabaka and Katikkiro should investigate the BLB imediately,
saying it is where problems arise.
The Kabaka's chief in charge of Buvuma sub-county Gregory Katende said, "We
have always tried to seek support from Mengo in vain."
Kabaka stops leases
The development comes days after Kabaka Ronald Mutebi last week stopped BLB
from leasing the kingdom's land especially that owned by the royal family.
He said the traditional royal family land and properties were well
demarcated. The royal family owns 350 square miles of land which the government
returned to Mengo in 1993.

It is mainly occupied by individual encroachers, markets, kingdom
administration building, tombs and palaces.
Last month, Muliika warned members of the Buganda Land Board against leasing
the kingdom land illegally.
He said the officials headed by the board secretary Mr Levy Zzimbe had not
responded to his directive of having a clear list showing rightful occupants on
Kabaka's land.
