The Karamojong warriors are merely reacting, like Sulfuric acid would
react if it reacts with certain elements, to UPDF provocations and actions.
This so called Uganda Human Rights Commission should and must condemn the
UPDF for:
a) adopting rather choosing stringent MILITARY policy to forcefully disarm
the Karamojong, even though the objective to disarm the Karamojongs could have
been achieved via negotiations and through peaceful means.
b) UPDF use of helicopter GUNSHIPS to kill the karamojong lies flies.
The Karamojong, no doubt have every right to defend themselves against
deliberate provocation by Museveni's dogs!!!
That then is the point I wanted to make!

UHRC condemns Karamoja warriors

The Uganda Human Rights Commission has warned Karimojong warriors against
violating human rights in Karamoja and neighbouring districts.
The renewed efforts by the government to disarm the warriors and rid the area
of illicit arms has increased insecurity leading to loss of lives of UPDF
officers, Karimojong natives and some of the warriors involved in the
skirmishes.
Two weeks ago, the warriors shot dead 22 UPDF soldiers including the
commanding officer of the 67th Battalion, Maj. Kaamu Rwanshande, during a
cordon and search operation at Lopuyo village, Rengen sub-county about five
miles, north of Kotido town.
The commission condemns the actions of the warriors that amounted to gross
abuse of human rights, a statement from the commission dated November 9 read
in parts.
The killing of UPDF soldiers in ambushes, raiding of Kotido town and looting
of property and other acts of lawlessness by the warriors call for condemnation
from the commission as human rights defenders.
The statement, however, said reports from the Moroto human rights regional
office indicate that about 70 UPDF soldiers and local defence unit officers
including Kaamu, a battalion Commander , were killed by the warriors during
several ambushes and attacks.
The commission has for the last few weeks been following the security
situation in Karamoja sub region. We have learnt that on October 30, armed
warriors carried out a sectarian raid in Senior Quarters of Kotido town
targeting non-natives, says the statement.
On that same day, gunmen suspected to be warriors attacked Moroto Prison
Barrack, shot and injured the assistant superintendent in charge of the
prison.
The commission urged the UPDF officers to ensure that the rights of the
people are not violated in the process of containing the security situation.
Mr Goerge Paliel Ufoyuru, the officer in Charge of Human Rights in Moroto
district said it is estimated that about 40,000 guns are still in the hands of
the warriors
