Why if I may ask are you trying to link Mu7 to the meeting? Dr. Beigye met
Col. Ogole on his own acord as an opposition leader. It is the same as Dr.
Besigye meeting other opposition leaders; Col. Ogole only happened to be a
military man.

So, why link Mu7 to the meeting?

Mulindwa's attempt to link Dr. Besigye to anything, to try and discredit the
man, is at best stupid, and is not going work. It is exposed, and he only can
continue at his own risks!

You know as much as I know that the state is the biggest terroriser of Dr.
Besigye. They hate the man even when he coughs some people are not happy. That
statement by Mr.Tumwine is a bit irresponsible. Every sane Ugandan citizen has
got a job to do what he or she thinks is right for the nation and it is within
their right. If he or she has got the means to do it, then they should go ahead
and do it. Here Dr. Besigye was acting in his position as both a responsible
citizen and president of FDC party. If this situation finally leads to Mr.
Ogole and Mr. Museveni‘s reconciliation, then it will be good for the nation
and Dr.Besigye would be applauded in this process. The problem with politicians
or army generals making such ridiculous statements like that of General Tumwine
is that it becomes a stumbling block in the process of reconciliation. They
feel that the reconciliation process should be started, channelled and ended
with them which is wrong. Any body can start this
process even if it ends up being officially channelled to the president’s desk
or the reconciliation committee.

By the way, I don’t see why these issues should be publicly addressed by the
big men in the army. This is a national issue which should be addressed by
either the president’s office or the Ministry of foreign affairs. It is not an
army issue despite the fact that some people now in UPDF were rocking horns
with Ogole during the Luwero war. Why should we have the army getting involved
in almost every state level. Why can’t the president keep the army out of these
things? It is not good for the long term stability of Uganda. Dr. Milton Obote
employed the same methods and they turned against him. Amin did it but it never
worked. I’m yet to see how long Mr. Museveni is gonna keep militarising Uganda
politics and work for him and Uganda. Again, I’m saying this in my capacity as
a responsible citizen of the Republic of Uganda.

    GOD BLESS

And that is where you slow down and read the reports that actually Dr Kiiza
Besigye's trips are state sponsored, very carefully. People be very careful
with the scenario in Uganda politics.

I think this is "Nugu" that Besigye upstaged them. Does Besigye need to be
representing anybody to meet Ogole or anybody else? Is it only government that
can meet exiles?

Army, MPs welcome Ogole- Besigye meeting

      KAMPALA
THE London reconciliatory meeting between Colonels Kizza Besigye and John
Ogole has received a nod of approval from a section of Ugandans.
Col. Ogole and Dr Besigye met in London last Sunday.

Former bush war commander Lt Gen Elly Tumwine said Col Ogole is welcome to
Uganda, although he wondered in whose capacity opposition leader Dr Besigye met
Col Ogole.
"I am sure he is free to return. We would welcome him. (Col) Ogole is a
Ugandan. But who was Dr Besigye representing. He is not government," Lt. Gen.
Tumwine, also member of the UPDF High Command said in a telephone interview
yesterday.

The UPDF spokesman, Maj Felix Kulayigye said reconciliation was not a new
concept.
"We have passed out 77 former LRA rebels. Nobody has been harassed. It is an
old concept to absorb our adversaries," he said.

"When we capture you, you either join us or you go home. There is the example
of Maj. Gen. Julius Oketa who was a Lieutenant when he joined us. We don't need
lessons. It has been our modus operandi on a non-combat avenue."

At Parliament, Chwa MP, Livingstone Okello-Okello commended the move saying it
was a new gesture that Uganda needs to embrace.

Oyam South MP, Ishaa Otto said Col Ogole and Dr Besigye's meeting is welcome in
the interest of peace and reconciliation. "This is what Ugandans need to hear.
How long are we going to hate each other? President Yoweri Museveni should
learn from this," the legislator said.

Kawempe South MP and DP member Ssebuliba Mutumba was amazed to see the man who
inflicted most casualties on the NRA in the Luweero bush war happily reconciled
with Dr Besigye.

"It is a sign of optimism towards a united nation. We need to teach our leaders
that detestation cannot take us forward," he said.
Bunyaruguru MP Gaudioso Tindamanyire said the NRM had not prevented anybody
from coming back to Uganda.

"We welcome everybody because it is the cornerstone of the government that
cherishes tolerance," he said.

Peter Claver Mutuluuza (Mawokota MP) however dismissed Col. Ogole as "expired
and therefore cannot be a threat to the established NRM government."
His views were echoed by Robert Byabashaija (Youth Western) who said Dr Besigye
and Ogole's reconciliation cannot take the NRM by surprise.

The opposition shadow minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Reagan Okumu (Aswa
County) added a twist to the meeting, saying there was nothing personal about
Dr Besigye and Col. Ogole's meeting.

"The only difference between the two was during the bush war where they
believed in different leaders. They became enemies by extension and any
reconciliation is secondary because a primary one should be between Besigye and
Obote and between Ogole and Museveni," he said.

Jimmy Akena, son to former President Dr Milton Obote whose government Col.
Ogole served declined to comment on the matter.
Col. Ogole, a top commander of UNLA forces under the late Milton Obote
inflicted most casualities on the then rebel National Resistance Army led by
President Museveni, after the mysterious death of Brig. Oyite Ojok.

In his book, 'Sowing the Mustard Seed', President Museveni mentions several
battles between his rag-tag army and the UNLF led by Col. Ogole.

"Meanwhile, the UNLA force led by Ogole was desperately chasing us, trying to
make us jettison our equipment…when we were about to start moving, he attacked
us at Birembo with artillery and Katyusha rockets. We managed to repulse him,
but we lost five of our boys…" President Museveni recounted.
