Latigo is not a serious FDC leader in parliament. Personally, for what he has
done so far, I think he should be demoted, if not pushed alltogether. Demotion
would suffice, to send a clear message that in this tussle against Mu7's
government, pliancy is a topsyturvy avenue to follow.

Prof Latigo, MP Okumu clash again
Yasiin Mugerwa & Mercy Nalugo
PARLIAMENT
THE conflict between two senior members of the opposition Forum for
Democratic Change, Prof. Ogenga Latigo and Mr Reagan Okumu seems to be
deepening by the day.
The two yesterday fiercely attacked each other. Prof Latigo is chasing his
shadow and Im not a party to his office administration at Parliament. It was
extremely reckless for Prof Latigo to mention my name behind my back. I
understand he has domestic problems but I dont have such problems myself, Mr
Okumu told reporters at Parliament yesterday.
He was responding to a Sunday Monitor story in which Prof. Latigo, the Leader
of Opposition in Parliament, accused Mr Okumu the shadow Foreign Affairs
Minister of being one of the people pushing for his ouster.
Prof Latigo was quoted as having said then, The plot to remove me [Prof
Latigo] is not a party thing but there is a group of guys who have not
accepted that I am the Leader of Opposition. A lot of those against me are our
own people from the north. He added; Mr Okumu is in the frontline and he
is in league with some people in the Diaspora and in Parliament, Prof. Latigo
said.
Last week, it was revealed that an anonymous group had compiled a dossier on
Prof Latigo, copies of which have already been dispatched to FDC members in
the Diaspora, accusing him of "toning down serious party decisions" in favour
of those of the government.
Prof Latigo is accused of being "weak", "easily compromised" and an "NRM
sympathiser."
Addressing a press conference yesterday, Mr Okumu said; There is no group
chasing Prof Latigo, this is personal criticism that we have all endured. If
a Deputy Party President reduces himself to this extent by backbiting and
attacking his juniors, then this is unfortunate of Prof Latigo.
Responding to Mr Okumus remarks, Prof Latigo stunned reporters when he said;
I dont know what Mr Okumu wants from me. For him to say that I have domestic
problems is ridiculous. May be he wants my wife. He should know that I dont
go to other peoples homes to report their domestic problems like him.
Mr Okumu is desperate and needs help. This is why he finds it decent to talk
about my personal problems. I am the Leader of Opposition and I dont
understand why he is finding it hard to let me do my work, he said.
But Mr Okumu said; Prof Latigos remarks make me sick. It implies that he is
the only one eyed man among the blind. There is no blind person within FDC and
everybody qualifies to be leaders because we have gone to school.
In his separate response, Prof Latigo said: My house is not burning it is Mr
Okumus house on fire. Mr Okumu told reporters that he would petition FDCs
National Executive Committee to discuss the crisis.
