Ben Kiwanuka was a Catholic and the Kingdom was only Anglican there was no
two ways about that, Mengo itself needed nothing to do with a Catholic. Let
me add that at a time, religion was so cut out that you did not even dare to
bring a Catholic into Mengo or vice versa, in fact it is Museveni who has
crossed the Catholics into the Kingdom, I thus opine to you that
Mulwanyamuli is the first Catholic to be Katikiro of Buganda ever since the
Kingdom was established in about 1300. It must also be recorded that
Ssabassajja Mutebi is the first King in the Buganda history to have a
Catholic Katikiro for it has all along been very abomination. Now why did
Museveni push for it? For Cardinal Emanuel Nsubuga gave Museveni a farm to
use for the war on condition that he will force Mengo to accept the
Catholics. And Mulwanyamuli was never appointed by Mengo but by Museveni for
they are also buddies from childhood. Now whether Catholics will continue
to be accepted in Mengo, remains a mystery as it is a mystery if the Kingdom
its self will survive when Museveni leaves power, for all indications are
that Museveni leaves and Ssabassajja in tow. It is very possible that
Ssabassajja wanted to be a king and he wanted Musevenis protection so Mengo
decided to hold a nose and have Mulwanyamuli who was handed to them on a
take it or leave it basis.
It is bothersome that Uganda has moved from religious fanaticism to now
tribal factures.

about Ben Kiwanuka and Mengo;
I recently listened to Haji Naduli on this TV show AKABINKANO and he said
Ben had just been out either America or Britain and had no place for the
monarchists in his political agenda much as he was very popular at the
moment. Then those who felt his politics was out to kill them were looking
for a way out and Obote group was looking for a way in. The Obote group gave
the promises that looked good and they were welcomed by the endangered
species. Ofcourse they took too much to be a gentlemen's agreement and so
did M7 take them for a ride; you keep hearing bush agreements. Pride or
silly openness killed Kiwanuka's political carrier. Why couldnt he find room
for a Muganda Kabaka yet up to now M7 begrudgingly does? Ben lost the
Buganda vote because he had no place for the Kabaka in his politics, all the
thing mbu catholic ........were added propaganda to further discredit him.
Its even said that his DP had no room for federal governance.
He might have been bright but not shrewd and foresited enough.
