EDMONTON - A policeman says an Edmonton MP under arrest for suspected drunk
driving had locked himself in his truck and refused to co-operate when the
officer arrived on the scene.

Sgt. Conrad Moschansky told a court hearing that he had come to help out
because Peter Goldring was reported to be acting in a quote — "belligerent"
— manner.

The 15-year MP for Edmonton-East is to go on trial Jan. 16 on a charge of
refusing to provide a breathalyzer sample.

He was re-elected most recently as a Conservative but has sat as an
Independent since shortly after his arrest.

His lawyer wants more records of computer messages and phone calls by police
in the hour before Goldring's arrest last December in north Edmonton.

Goldring has suggested his defence will include the assertion police
unfairly targeted him that night — but Moschansky says he didn't tell his
officers to pull over any specific person or type of vehicle.
