Image courtesy Toronto Police ServiceToronto police are asking for assistance in the search for Christopher Peloso, the husband of former MPP and Toronto mayoral candidate George Smitherman. Police announced on Tuesday that Peloso, 39, was last seen Monday afternoon in the area of Davenport Road and Bathurst Street. They are concerned for his safety. Peloso has been married to Smitherman for the past six years and the couple has adopted two children together. Smitherman personally announced Peloso's disappearance in a Facebook post on Tuesday. "I regret to confirm that Christopher Peloso has been missing from our home for almost 24 hours," Smitherman wrote <https://www.facebook.com/GeorgeSmitherman> . "Michael, Kayla and myself, with the support of family and friends, are hopeful that our husband and father will be home safely soon." Smitherman was a long-time Liberal representative at Queen's Park, holding such duties as health minister and deputy premier under former premier Dalton McGuinty. He placed second to Rob Ford in the 2010 Toronto mayoral election, and more recently considered running federally, in the upcoming Toronto Centre riding byelection, but chose to remain out of politics <http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/george-smitherman/toronto-centre-george-smithe rman-_b_3672629.html> and spend more time with his family. Peloso is described as white, 5'8", 150 lbs., with brown eyes and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-blue jacket, tan shorts and blue flip-flops.
