Toronto city Council has today voted 39-3 in Favour of a motion to limit a
one Mayor Rob Fords powers. As of today Friday Mayor Rob Fords authority
has been placed to the deputy mayor. Roughly this Is where we are, Because a
Mayor can only be removed from office if charged convicted and sentenced to
jail, the best this council can do is to strip the powers of this man. With
this vote they are allocating all his powers to The Deputy Mayor of Toronto
Counselor Norm Kelly. In the process of clipping the wings of this man, this
motion removes the authority from him that he can no longer hire/remove/fire
the Deputy mayor or any of the heads of departments. If there is a disaster
in Toronto it can no longer be taken care of by him but by the deputy mayor,
all running of the city in good or under emergency has been transferred to
the Deputy Mayor of Toronto. Let me be very clear here, Rob Ford is the
Mayor of this city until when he personally decide to resign or take the
leave of absence. Many of us thought that we are in a situation where a good
man can decide to leave but the mayor has over and over proved that he is
not a good man and he does not care on the damage he has done to the city,
we are swamped by international televisions to you have no idea. American
Jay Lanos are having a harvest on a city that has kept its self out of the
news for we rather not make news but be admired.
It is important to note that the mayor has stated that he is going to go to
court and challenge this vote, and I do not have a doubt to his decision,
for what Rob Ford is doing today is to go down with the entire city. Next
week come Monday, the council is going to sit and pass a motion to freeze
his entire budget. This is an important step because when you transfer his
duties to the deputy Mayor, you need to transfer his staff too. If the
Monday motion pass as I know it will, all Mayor Fords staff will either be
fired or transferred to the Deputys office and Mayor Rob Ford will remain
sitting in an office as a Councilor of Etobikoce holding a title of a Mayor
but with no expense, no staff and no powers. The council must find a way to
by-pass him and run the city for there simply isnt a law through which he
can be fired. In the meantime many programs in the city have been put on
hold and because of the violence that has been seen on City Hall, and the
foul language that was used by his worship yesterday, the situation on the
city hall is not conducive to visitation, thus all schools touring of the
city hall have been cancelled effective today Friday until further notice.
We are going to pass through this either way.
