THE CALL

For

Free and Fair Elections NOW!

For many years now, Ugandans have demanded genuinely free and fair elections
that are not characterised by fraud, state-orchestrated terror and massive
diversion of tax-payersÂ’ money as well as international development
assistance. This demand, among other things, has focused on the need to
institute measures designed to curb the entrenched, wholesale impunity that
pervades the current electoral process. These reforms are a prerequisite for
peaceful political transition that will also provide the necessary
foundation for the long term democratization of Uganda. A revamped new
electoral management system is even more urgent today in the light of the
proximity of the anticipated 2016 General Elections.

Against the above background, therefore, political parties, civil society
organizations and leaders, acting together in a non-partisan spirit, and on
behalf of the people of Uganda, are sounding a clarion call for the urgent
establishment of a new system for organizing and managing elections that can
deliver genuinely free and fair elections. The Call for Free and Fair
Elections Now will be launched on Monday, 10 February, 2014, starting at
2.00 pm at St Francis Chapel Community Centre, Makerere University.

You are cordially invited to the launch of this Campaign as we chart the
path for a better country and future.
