*A Thank You to Hon Norbert Mao*

*Dear Hon Norbert Mao,At the start of this year, *

*with maturity and thoughtfulness, you addressed a few points to us
Ugandans. I was extremely impressed. Thank you.It made me to see you in a
completely different light, and to radically increase my respect for you.
Your words were very profound, and without anger or rancor. Many times the
Opposition in Uganda comes off as myopic and infantile-like. Not you this
time.*

*And many Ugandans seem to think that it is only President Museveni who has
to account for his file; and that Uganda's problem is only him, say.*

*But as an example it is long ago in 1970 when our Maths Curriculum was
sliced in half as we were starting an Engineering School. So, many times
what matters are solutions, and not the apportioning of blame.Hon Mao there
is another point:- It is my love for our kids in the Acholi refugee camps.
I have been very very proud of those my fellow Ugandans. Even at the height
of their misery they were still sharp, talking in UNESCO's standards of
Units and Measures. ( Kilometres, etc...., they are numerate kids. Better
than our "sausage types" here)*

*Ugandans in diaspora, I have noticed it is mostly our lawyers - in London,
Canada, USA etc... they are all waxing with units of feet, inches, gallons,
milo, and such garbage. Even the English don't use them anymore. They were
units during the Dark Ages.*

*I am afraid for my country if such backwardness ever creeps back to
Uganda, to undo our School Metric System as handed to us so lovingly by our
late President Dr Obote.Hon Mao, to thank you I want to contribute $100 to
the DP Party that you lead. Tell me how I proceed with this?Thank you
Sir.Mitayo PotosiToronto*
