Examples use of XCASSerializer versus XmiCASSerializer

Does the XCASSerializer output XMI?  Is it the same as the XmiCasSerializer?
If not, should the example code in the uimaj-examples be changed to Xmi 
(Currently there is an example XCasWriterCasConsumer)?
