There is no official pre-meeting social organised for Bristol. The only UKNOF organised social is the NHR sponsored beers afterward on the Tuesday. Some (me included) felt the curry was getting out of hand, and more difficult to organise. When it was a smaller thing, just with people who happened to have arrived early, it wasn't an issue finding a venue, and easier to find people willing to put some money up. However, things changed to the point that people started to deliberately arrive early to go to the curry, which made it a victim of it's own success. As far as I'm aware, according to friends and family who live in Bristol, there's no decent curry house in Bristol that could seat a UKNOF sized party (if it's anything like Leeds), in any case.
