Hi Simon, Last time I looked at them about 18 months ago we had a choice of 10GBASE-T, 10GE SFP+ SR or 10GE SFP+ DAC cables for connecting servers to TOR switches. We settled for DAC cables due to the cost saving over optical SFP+ and much reduced latency and power consumption over 10GBASE-T.
The only thing to be wary of is if any vendors are vendor locking SFP+s to their codes. If they are and you're connecting kit from different manufacturers you may need to reprogram one end or the other. There are tools out there such as the Flexbox however I've never used one of them.
