Hi, Generally the grey multimode couplers use Phosphor Bronze Sleeves and the Blue singlemode use Zirconia Sleeves. Personally I wouldn't use a multimode coupler on a singlemode fibre. You will probably get away with it on short runs within the DC. However if you are driving dark and need to keep losses to a minimum then using the proper couplers is going to be important. Multimode is only used for short runs and is generally much more tolerant of connector loss, the major problem is dispersion which I doubt would be influenced by using a different coupler. I therefore sometimess use blue couplers on Multimode if I can't find something else.
As stated earlier repsole will deliver to dockland DCs. They are also just round the corner http://www.repsole.com/Contact.asp if I'm missing something I generally just pop round there and by the appropriate cable and couplers (assuming during office hours). If you are running dark fibre and are concerned about connector loss then you may want to get correct LC-SC couplers etc, which can be sourced on the Net or through somebody like Blue Helix (http://www.bluehelix.co.uk/). However if your just driving the cross-connect I would suck up the loss get an LC-LC or SC-SC coupler from repsole as appropriate and then an LC-SC cable.
