The dams were built primarily to support remotely situated smelters. Iceland is working to stop the growth of the smelters and their residual pollution including the dam effect and the boxite delivery traffic jam in their harbor which has its own effects. Data center is a much kinder approach to the local environment although data center industry at large has its own irrational critics. Best, -M<
